Our Physical Protection services run the gamut of what we generally refer to as Personal/Personnel Security Details (psd), consisting of as few as one security escort/bodyguard to multiple, or many, security personnel whose primary responsibility is the defense, protection, and safety of the principal and their entourage.
A close protection detail and bodyguard detail are very similar. The primary differences are between the U.K. and the U.S.A. term useage. In either case, there can be as few as one person dedicated to the mission (typical) to as many as three to seven or more on the principal alone. Bodyguards and close protection teams also, typically, stay within an arm's reach of the principal. Or, as some would say, in their pocket. More derisively, in their hair.
Most, if not all, of the people we associate with for such security works have experience in diplomatic security, dignitary protection, high value escorts, vip security and protection.
In either case, the people involved in such a security detail should necessarily have much instruction, training, and on the ground experience with such matters. Maturity, character, adaptability, finesse, discipline, focus, mental acuity, physical prowess, and considerable attention to detail are a must. In such roles, merely having been in the military and or having been a police officer with a friend vouching for them is most often not enough. Having attended a well-known ep school is also almost always not enough. All the schools, classes, instruction and training one could want are a very good start, and often good enough to get one's foot in the door. But, experience is where it is at.
Executive protection typically is far more involved and nuanced than most people, and practioners, realize. There are usually a lot of moving pieces, a lot of planning, intelligence and surveillance, and sometimes to often their counters. White glove "skills" and "soft skills" sound great until the bullet meets the bone.
Additionally, the protective security specialist must be able to blend in to their environment while also being able to send, clearly, non-verbal messages to potential adversaries that messing with their client is a bad idea. However, there are times when not blending in to the environment is necessary, and even desireable.
The people we utilize to protect you almost always have a military background in a combat arms M.O.S. (Military Occupational Skill). Most of our people will have also worked overseas in a high-risk/high-threat private security capacity as a private security contractor. The instruction, training and the experiences gleaned from such experiences is nearly priceless.
Walking the walk is way different from talking the talk. If you need security and protection, let the professionals do their job. If you just need your ego stroked, there are thousands of warm body "security companies" around for that. Some of them are well known -- not always for the right reasons.
At Skagit PSS, we want to earn your trust, and our money, by preventing a situation, not by creating nor inflaming one. For the protective security professional, a good day is a boring day!
